Deepak is an independent singer-songwriter based out of Stockholm, Sweden. He is born and brought up in Dehradun, India. His composition reflects simplicity, love and he believes in creating melodies that the audience can easily connect with and feel. His debut single “Tera Hissa” has been appreciated by popular media including RollingStone India and has also been added to Spotify India’s editorial playlist for indie artist playlist “Hindies”.

Here is Deepak's response to some of the questions I asked him.
When did you start your journey as a Singer?
I am from Dehradun and it is the place where my musical journey started. The valleys, the mountains, the greens are something which I am always attracted to and that's why my genre is more towards love, romance, feel good. That comes from the Dehradun side which I have. I started my writing as a rookie in my school days and then the singing part began in my college days. I also got a lot of local support from my friends and family in Dehradun. I am now based out of Stockholm and my indie singer-songwriter journey started from here.
What is the story behind your Debut Single "Tera Hissa"?
My debut single is named #TeraHissa which means "part of your life", It's a romantic ballad or you can call it a simple soulful love song that I wanted to dedicate to my wife. She has been a fighter and it's a way to thank her and make her feel special. Especially after delivering our second child. A woman has to go through a lot during and post pregnancy and this is my small attempt to make her feel special and I hope she does :). Sorry if I sound too filmy or dramatic :) but that's who I am. I also wanted to bring the song to my audience so that they could relate to the song as well. Hope I get their affection and love :).
I wanted the song to be simple yet catchy and to translate my personality into the song. I want to create a feeling where my audience picks up the song easily and can start humming about it or just sing to their loved ones. This is a song that is very easy to play on a guitar or a piano and anyone can make an unplug attempt, I wanted it to be that simple.
When we talk about the arrangement of the song, You will hear live instruments like guitar, a piano a little bit of a rabab. The vocals are supported parallel with the guitar leads which I love. I did not want the vocals to come out plain so thought to blend in the guitar leads. You will also hear some vocal harmonies. I love to do harmonies and this came out really well so maybe my next project could be a fully harmonized project.
The intro and the outro both have a special feel. The intro is traditional ballad melodic and a simple attempt with keys and guitar strumming as I didn't want to experiment so much with the intro. I wanted it to be easier for the audience to attach themselves to the song. And according to me, it could happen if you can try and keep it simple. I tried to put some chops in the song as well but kept it at a minimum. The kicks are amazing and just blended perfectly giving a bit of R&B touch as well. Again the objective has always been sticking to simplicity but capturing my persona in the song.
What inspired your Debut track? What challenges did you face while recording the track?
My wife and our love story inspired me.
There were many challenges that I am sure other indie artists can relate to as well. The journey of the song began and I started to frame the song, I tried many versions but something was just not right, there was one part of the song which was not fitting well in the frame and I was really struggling with it and produced so many versions but it would still not fit in. It was time I sought some professional help and thank god that the music producer was able to have a crack at it.
We really loved the animated video, What made you go for such an approach?
Due to COVID 19, I could not shoot the video as I planned, I wanted it to be shot in different locations within Europe with an amazing director from Stockholm a very close friend of mine who did my recent covers but because of some production and pandemic challenges, I decided to go for something different this time.
An illustration with lyrics, capturing some special moments of my life with Supriya my wife. In this video, you can see how I have tried to get some of our special moments from in the video. I wanted to capture Stockholm in my video, so I picked up the famous Eric Ericsson Hallen, ( https://ericericsonhallen.se), the place where I and Supriya gave our reception party the best moment of our life I can say where we were introduced as husband and wife and I wanted it to be in the video. So you will see little animated me and Supriya sitting on the top of the building and trying to see our special moments in those different frames. I have also captured some old buildings architecture from Stockholm's old town also known as Gamlastan in my video. That's also a special part where we use to hang out and it's really beautiful and one of Stockholm's main attractions.
I collaborated with an Illustrator whom I saw in one of RollingStone India Magazine's weekly featured song, I really loved her work and then got in touch with her. Her name is Devanshi Chitalia. She made my visions into reality and started it all from scratch and drafted so many versions but finally, we both came with the version I wanted. Its been since July this year that we have been working on the video and the video has come out really well and she did an amazing job on the video.

What is your next step in the music scene?
More music for sure :), My latest single "Main Chala" is getting a lot of attention and support from my listeners. "Main Chala" is a song collaborated between me and Indian music producer VIBIE.
We all have special memories in our life which we have enjoyed with our loved ones. But time flies and all that remains is the desire to relive and reconnect to those amazing memories. “Main Chala” is my desire to relive and reconnect to those childhood memories which I spent in my hometown “Dehradun” and I hope you all can as well reconnect and relive your special memories through my song. It’s a perfect travel song and has a soft aesthetic vibe to it which a listener can easily connect. The simplicity of the lyrics will make you fall in love with the song. You can listen to the song here (Listen Now)
I have some more songs coming up in 2022 and I am sure my audience will love them.
