Hyderabad Trio Five YearsFromNow Unveils New Single ‘Kya Hua’

October 2024 – Hyderabad’s electronic trio, Five YearsFromNow (FYFN), releases their introspective new single, "Kya Hua." A layered and ambient piece, "Kya Hua" draws listeners into an intimate journey of self-awareness and discovery, reflecting on the invisible yet enduring forces that shape our lives. For FYFN members Kai Gurung (lyricist and vocalist), Sumanth Krishna Battu (producer), and Shan Paul (drummer), this release marks a significant step forward in exploring a sound that blends electronic depth with emotional nuance.
The inspiration for "Kya Hua" emerged during a transformative period for Kai, who channeled personal experiences of resilience into the song’s core lyrics.
“There’s a line in the song, ‘phir baar baar taare mein ginu kyu,’ that resonates deeply with me,” Kai shares. “Those nights, counting stars under an open sky, became moments of healing and acceptance.”
This iconic lyric reflects Kai's exploration of finding comfort in the vastness of the night, a metaphor that resonates with the trio’s collective journey in confronting and moving beyond their individual struggles.
Recorded in FYFN’s home studio in Hyderabad, "Kya Hua" features ambient electronic textures and Drum and Bass undertones, a blend that mirrors the open landscapes that inspired the trio. FYFN’s collaboration with mixing and mastering engineer Ayan De further refined the sound, emphasizing a spacious, immersive experience.
“We wanted the track to evoke a sense of vast openness,” the band reflects, “allowing listeners to find their own space within the music.”
This release is also a milestone as FYFN’s first track with Robach Music Group, signaling a new era for the band after years of independent production. Through this partnership, FYFN has embraced a sonic style that remains true to their electronic roots while exploring new dimensions of expression.
