Welsh rising star Josh Hicks is back with his third single of 2024, 'Home Is Where The Heart Is,' following the success of his BBC Radio Wales A-Listed hits, 'Self Seeking' (The Highest Order of Selfishness) and 'Everything About You.' Scheduled for release on February 16, 2024, the track explores the universal dilemma of whether to stay rooted in the comfort of a small Welsh village or venture into the excitement and adventure of a big city.
In this melodic concoction of pop, jazz, soul, and R&B, Josh Hicks, known for his remarkable falsetto voice, takes us on a journey that balances the tension between freedom and comfort. The funky bass line and nostalgic undertones complement the track's message of standing in the present, reflecting on the past, and envisioning the future.
The personal narrative behind 'Home Is Where The Heart Is' adds depth to the song, as Josh shares, "It was a fast-approaching question for me, studying in London – 'do I stay or do I go home?' Sadly, COVID took that option away from me. My home, the countryside of South Wales, welcomed me back, presenting an opportunity to remain on familiar soil, forge new connections, and cast new friendships. While city life remains a dream for now, I believe things happen for a reason."
Behind the scenes, producer and co-writer ShatterJack, known for hits played on BBC Radio 1, Australia's Triple-J, and LA's KCRW, brought 'Home Is Where The Heart Is' to life. ShatterJack's extensive experience in scoring films and TV shows, including notable works like Bridget Jones, Lucky Man, and Sherlock Gnomes, adds a cinematic touch to the track.
Josh Hicks, who burst onto the Welsh music scene in 2023, has quickly made a mark with his debut single and subsequent A-Listed hits. After winning the Open Mic competition in 2021 against 10,000 other entries, he continued to impress with performances across Wales and an opening slot for Natalie Imbruglia. His education at ACM in Guildford and collaboration with Emeli Sandé through the MS Society showcase his dedication to musical excellence and social impact.
